While Home Restaurant excels in many areas, it has received some mixed feedback regarding its coffee. Several guests have found it overly bitter, with some suggestions for improvement concerning pastes used for light beverages.
Additionally, the tricky access point poses a minor inconvenience. Some diners mention that it's a bit difficult to find due to its less visible location. A lack of clear signs can cause uncertainty about the restaurant hours or whether it’s open.
Another common concern includes the richness of the hot chocolate, which some guests found too thick for their taste. It may not suit everyone's preference. However, despite these minor setbacks, patrons love returning for the superb food and welcoming environment.
Characterful place with high quality food at reasonable prices. You could easily pay a lot more for similar in more “posh” places. Local produce used by the owners who know their supply lines well
If this is where you had your last meal, you would die happy. Absolutely incredible food, staff and atmosphere. Make sure to plan ahead and book a table, you won't be disappointed. Thanks so much for the amazing meal!
Really like this place... it is a little difficult to find as it has virtually no visible signs from the road and sits behind another building, and you are not always sure if it is open... however it is worth finding it. Once you open the doors the decor is lovely, very inviting with art on the walls, fairy lights on the ceiling and lots of large windows letting in light. The hand drawn menu (similar style to the mural on the outside wall, see photos) is quirky and fun and the dish names belie the amazing food. Whoever has come up with this has a talent. So far every dish I have ordered has not been quite what was expected... but I have never been disappointed. The twist on some standard meals have been both different and delightful. The only criticism is the coffee. And according to one other diner that was with us the hot chocolate wasn't the best either. I take my coffee with oat milk and I think perhaps that partly the problem is the brand of milk. The coffee itself seems overly bitter / too strong. The hot chocolate was too thick as a drink for my guest's taste. So we haven't yet settled on a drink any of us really like. But we will be back for the amazing food!
LOVED our dinner at Home. The service was friendly, welcoming and unpretentious. It was like arriving at a friends house where they poured a large glass of wine and put delicious bread and olives on the table. Felt at home from the start. I had the cucumber avant guard which was hard to describe even after eating it - but the flavours were amazing. The green curry fried chicken was outstanding - So much flavour. For mains we had pig cheeks which were delicious and the rump steak. The steak was unbelievable! It was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfection. It was also one of the largest steaks have ever been served and took 2 of us to eat. Should really have taken a doggy bag as would a have made amazing sandwiches next day. Didn’t really have room for pudding but wanted to try the plum tart which was so delicious. Wine was very reasonably priced for the quality and comes by glass . Will be finding reasons to be in Dumfries on Thursday or Friday again so can return
Simply one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Truly what a hidden gem, every course was spectacular and the value for money is exceptional. Can’t recommend highly enough.
